There may be some terms you do not understand, so here is a brief explanation of these words:
Work Permit: This is a visa allowing you to work in the UK, for the period stated on the endorsement. If you do not have this visa you are not allowed to work in the UK;
Highly Skilled visa. This visa is endorsed on your passport and is granted to those people with Graduate, Masters, PhDs, and some work experience. You must achieve 65 points to benefit. IT, Lawyers, Doctors, Civil Engineers, and Scientist etc should consider this visa;
Student visa. A visa allowing you to study in the UK if you are of Non-European Nationality;
Nationality. This will be stated on your passport. Where you are born usually defines your nationality;
British Nationality. Granted when you have been granted indefinite indefinite leave to remain. Unless you have this status, do not apply. You will already have this if you have a British Passport;
British Citizenship. Is applied for when you have satisfied the requirements for indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
Non-European National. You will be categorised as this is you come under the list. You must apply for entry clearance to come in the UK;
UK Employer. A person who offers you employment in the UK. The employer must prove that their company has been operating for over 6 months;
Visiting the UK. A Non-European National who has a visit visa for 6 months only;
Visitor. A person holidaying in the UK on a visit visa to the UK. You must leave the UK before the visa expires;
Illegal worker. A person who has no immigration status in the UK and is working without the permission of the Home Office. If you are working illegally, you must stop and either apply for a work permit or leave the UK and request your employer to apply for you once you have left the UK;
Overstayer. A person who entered the UK on a visa that has now expired. This person has not left the UK and therefore has overstayed his or her welcome here. Or a person who has been refused entry to the UK on applying to the Home Office, and has not left the UK on receiving a Notice of Refusal. Overstayers are liable for deportation;
Resident worker. This term is referred to a UK resident national, who already has either residency in the UK or a British Passport;
Verification Requirements. These are new requirements that came into effect in October 20 04. Work Permit (UK) will now inspect your Resident Employer’s place of business before approving the work permit;
65 Points. These points are broken down into 6 areas, which are Your Education, Your Employment History, Your Salary, Your Achievements and if you are married or in a relationship akin to marriage, then ‘Your Partners Qualifications’;

European Countries. These are the countries that are members of the signatory states of the European Economic Community. They have a common agreement to allow free movement of persons and goods between their states;
EU Dependant. A spouse or child of a European national seeking entry to the UK as a dependant;
Spouse visa. A visa to allow the spouse of a British Citizen or Resident entry to the UK;
EU Resident Permit. A visa granted to a Non-European national seeking to remain in the UK as the dependant residing EU national in the UK.
GAT Agreement visa. This is a visa granted to a Non-European National already working for an EU Company seeking entry to the UK to conduct business;
Investors Visa. A visa granted to a Non–European national Millionaire, wanting to reside in the UK and invest £750,000 in Government Bonds & Shares;
Sole representative. A non-European national employee of a international company intending to set up a subsidiary in the UK.
Entry Clearance. This is a term used when you are granted leave to remain in the UK on the visa you apply for. The statement you will hear most is “you have been granted entry clearance for 6 months” if you are a visitor in the UK;
Sponsor. A term used to describe a UK resident offering to financially assist your application for a visa or extension visa to the UK; Extension visa. This is granted to the holder of an existing visa, endorsed on your passport before you travelled to the UK ;
British Embassy. A Diplomatic Post where you can attend to apply for a UK Visa. Also commonly called the British High Commission in Commonwealth Countries;

British Passport. A travel document that allows you to live permanently in the UK;
Domestic Violence in marriage. The Home Office Policy and Law to help those foreign national victims of domestic violence who are married to a UK resident or British Citizen ;
6 months. The length of a visit visa;
Indefinite leave to remain. A term used to confirm that you have permanent residence in the UK. There are no restrictions on your visa status in the UK;
